ntbackup unable to read security information on 2.0.7-4
Hi, I am running Samba 2.0.7-4 on RedHat 6.2 at a client site. Samba is acting as the Primary Domain Controller (PDC). Prior to changing to domain control, the server was doing user level authentication and the users were doing backups using plain vanilla ntbackup from an NT 4 Workstation without any problems. After the switch to domain control, ntbackup is skipping over every file, including ones that are owned by the user attempting the backup. The error message in the NT log is: "Please see the owner or administrator to get permission. Unable to read security information." The user doing the backup either owns the files and directories being backed up or is a member of a group that owns them. Any suggestions? Let's start by turning the logging up to 10 or so, and email me a log snippet from the time period when the backup is running. I'm hoping we'll find it's asking for something that Samba doesn't recognize, so we can report that to the team in time for 2.2. Look especially for any log messages about unrecognized or unimplemented requests... If that doesn't expose it, we'll capture the packets with snoop or etherial and approach it that way. --dave -- David Collier-Brown, | Always do right.
