That's mildly unusual, but not something that Samba

And that's **quite** unusual!

Samba shouldn't use more than a tiny fraction of
the system's resources per user: a older Ultra 200
cpu should deliver around 21 MB/S in SMB throughput,
and it's a rare and heavily loaded client that can
even request 1 MB.
Run the following command when Samba and the client
are both active and doing work, and mail me the
wolfgang.txt file...
sar -o wolfgang.raw 10 30 && sar -A -f wolfgang.raw >wolfgang.txt
This will sample the built-in statistics for 5
minutes, then convert them into ascii. I'll have a
look at it and see what's going on at the system level.
