I've been poking through docs and non-searchable mailing lists, but I haven't found the answer to this yet. First of all, how do I verify that my domain registration is accurate? My system seems to be in the NT4 domain, how do I prove it? Second, how do I specify users and groups in a domain as valid users for a resource? Do users still log in as DOMAIN\username? And how do I add users and/or groups with spaces in them to the list of valid users for accessing a resource? Thanks.
Hi. My problem, initially posted yesterday, still has proven unsolvable. I am getting an awful lot of failed opens on the "unexpected.tdb" file, which doens't exist on the machine. The connect_to_domain_password_server fails with the following error, which oddly says "Error was : SUCCESS - 0" Is there a problem with the way it interprets the result from the PDC? Unfortunately I cannot configure up a WIN NT server as a PDC in order to check the result of using a non-samba server as the authenticator. Any ideas? ------- connect_to_domain_password_server: unable to setup the PDC credentials to machine GFMNET01. On reflection, I have decided to refine my question. We are moving to using a samba pdc for our Council (migrating from winnt4). We have set this up in a experimental area and feel very comfortable with having a samba pdc, in addition, our primary file and print servers are samba, and have been for the past 4 years. What we would really like to know is how to add additional samba servers! Our questions are: Q1. If we want to add a samba server, what is the best practice in this community? For example, if we add another linux machine to provide more hard disk space for our clients 1. Would you mount its drives via nfs to the pdc or use samba on the additional machine to serve its disk directly? 2. Or is there some other way to do it???? Q2. If you use samba on the new machine to share out the resource, what do we set the security variable to in the smb.conf, DOMAIN or SERVER???? Do you need a machine account on the pdc for the new samba server? -- Clayton Rogers IT Officer Bundaberg City Council Queensland, Australia Phone: +61 0741539232 Fax: +61 0741529155 Email: claytonr@bundaberg.qld.gov.au Web Site: www.bundaberg.qld.gov.au -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed
My best advise is to migrate to Windows 2000 server as this will provide you with the best outcome, since you clearly have no idea!
