Joe Pfaltzgraff@PATAPSCO 11/13/2000 02:26 PM I am getting a lot of the following errors in my smbd log file. Can anyone tell me what causes them and their importance? [2000/11/10 08:03:33, 0] rpc_server/srv_lsa_hnd.c:open_lsa_policy_hnd(107) ERROR: out of Policy Handles!

You can up the number of max handles and recompile. WHat version of Samba are running? Samba 2.0 is not that great as a PDC though. I'm going to guess that this is associated with some application you are running that queries the Samba DC for account information a lot. Can you provide some more information in case this is a leak somewhere? Joe Pfaltzgraff@PATAPSCO 11/15/2000 11:49 AM I am running samba 2.0.7, and it is setup as the PDC. right now only a hand full of people have an account setup on the system. This error does not appear to be associated with any application (other than Win98se) Today I haven't used anything on the server, and this error is appearing in the log every 15 minutes (+/- a couple of seconds). smbstatus shows that there are no locked files. To give you a quick overview, We are currently using Novell file servers, I would like to replace them with this samba server. I do have automatic policy downloading, and the user must be authincated against the samba server before he/she is allowed into the Win98 system. (that is only setup on one system for testing) Let me know if you want any other info. Also I do get this error when I start smbd: but since it says information only, I ignored it. [2000/11/15 11:42:46, 1] smbd/files.c:file_init(216) file_init: Information only: requested 10000 open files, 1014 are available. Policy handles are an data > structure internal to smbd.I do realize that samba is not that great as a PDC, I am looking forward to the day that it is. Since our current file servers are Novell, we don't have a PDC setup, so that is why I chose to setup the samba as PDC, also I want the users to be able to log in, have scripts run, and policies downloaded. I guess I am a little confused. We do have about a dozen NT Workstations on our network, none of those users have valid samba accounts. What RPC calls could they be doing that would tie up all the policy handles?> Could you send me your smb.conf?[global] workgroup = Cheers server string = File Server preferred master = true netbios name = Sequoia domain logons = true domain master = true os level = 65 deadtime = 120 load printers = no encrypt passwords = true logon script = %U.bat [template] available = no writeable = yes hide dot files = false veto files = /,*/ map system = true map hidden = true create mask = 0777 directory mask = 0777 inherit permissions = true dos filetimes = true delete veto files = true [netlogon] copy = template available = yes path = /samba/logon/netlogon valid users = @everyone read only = yes write list = @it root preexec = /samba/logon/makelogonscript %U %m root postexec = rm /samba/logon/netlogon/%U.bat [homes] path = /samba/users/%u copy = template available = yes browseable = no valid users = %S [IT] path = /samba/groups/IT comment = IT Group copy = template available = yes valid users = @it [Salvage] path = /samba comment = Salvageable Files copy = template available = yes browseable = no veto files = // admin users = @it valid users = @it
