Dear samba users, Today I had something strange overhere. I just create and removed a \\<server>\backup share (it didn't work at the beginning but that's not the story). Now when I do \\<servername\backup at my windows machine this directory is mapped to \var\backups on my server!?!? Is this right or wrong? My workstations are Win95 OEM rel 2 Server is Debian potato with my own compiled version of samba 2.0.7 running a readhat 2.2.16-lfs kernel. Ries
Ok I understand what's going on. Samba cannot find a share called backup so samba is going for a username search. Samba finds a user 'backup' in the file /etc/passwd, locates the users home directory (in this case /var/backups) and then shows the contents of this directory. Not so nice but.... Still, what do you think in this sort of cases: Right or wrong or thid I misses a point somewhere. Like a option 'don't map users with uid below 100 or something like that. Ries
