Hi, I like to know if anyone has ever gotten samba to work on Sun Solaris on a Novell Network. I don't have an issue with installation on Sun Solaris that works fine. But I've never put Samba on a Novell Network Before. Please describe any steps or issue with this. Phillip B. What do you mean by putting it on a Novell Network? Are you going to try to make it work on a Netware box (I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think that is a supported plateform). If you are going to just run it on a Sun box that is on a lan that contains Netware servers as well, that should work fine. I run NT clients that connect just fine to both Netware servers and Samba servers. If your installing the server on a homogenous Novell network, you might be better off with a package like mars-nwe - that way you wouldn't have to install additional software on the clients and it would function in your existing security context. -----Original Message----- From: samba@samba.org [mailto:samba@samba.org]On Behalf Of Bruce, Phillip Sent: Monday, July 10, 2000 12:35 PM To: Multiple recipients of list SAMBA Subject: Novell Hi, I like to know if anyone has ever gotten samba to work on Sun Solaris on a Novell Network. I understand, the Sun Box is intended Samba server. I was suggesting that you run that smbclient command on the server machine itself to verify (without worrying about any connectivity issues) that Samba was running correctly on it. Doing this will show you what shares you have setup on the box. That way you can start to rule out the Samba configuration as the problem. You may want to post your smb.conf file as well, assuming nothing else works to see if there is anything funny about it. Dan "Bruce, Phillip" wrote:> Daniel, The samba server is the Sun Box. Daniel, Thanks for the tip. My problem seems to be more than just that. My laptop is connected to a subnet that is different that what the subnet on the samba server. Any ideas. I can ping to the server from the laptop just fine. I decided to put the standard smb.conf file in the configuration that came with the distribution. I still unable to get the server to come up in the laptop network neighborhood window. Also I can ping my laptop from the server so it is not a routing issue. I also made sure that the workgroup is set correctly to what I'm on. Anybody with a hint. In case your all wondering what the configuration are: Samba Server: Sun Ultra 2: Solaris 2.8 Network: 100 Base T VLAN Network. The network domains are running on Novell Servers which version 4.11 Laptop has TCP/IP software and loaded and connect to the internet just fine. Phillip B. Dmitry, I have had success with novell mapped to samba. I have the shares mount under /mnt as -U butthead -P passwd. The shares in /mnt show up as 775 access under user in the user's group. I use one user/passwd combo for everyone which is not great. I would like to set up a prexec script to mount each share by the logon user from samba, but I haven't found a way to sync the passwords. Novell is setup to time out the passwords. I have the share set as [cadfiles] comment = Cadfiles Shareon novell path = /mnt/novell/share/folder read only = No It works fine when the novell mount is not broken. I've had trouble with the IPX interface, but it works. If you have any specific questions, please let me know. Regards Dan Naughton
