Hi all,
I have samba 1.9 installed ok on a NeXT cube, OpenStep 4.2 on top of UNIX
4.3bsd. Very simple, bare-bones smb.conf file (not included here) not much
different than smb.conf.example; just a private file-system for me and a
printer declared on the UNIX box.
NT sometimes sees the UNIX files and printer; but NT also sometimes fails to
see them. I don't yet know why this seemingly capricious behavior occurs.
Haven't found clues yet in on-line docs.
Seems like overnight NT just decided to find the UNIX server on my LAN and put
the node in its network neighborhood. That was not the case yesterday; the
UNIX files and printer were invisible although I use the NeXT/UNIX box as a
proxy server to get from NT to the Internet aok. After rebooting NT today (I
installed Netscape Communicator and it demanded a restart), NT can't find
the
UNIX samba server again. Until I know better I'll wait to see if NT
discovers
the UNIX box on its own.
Does NT "poll" the network neighborhood? Or does Samba poll? Is
there some
mystery protocol on the NT side that I should know about that's somehow
effected by a reboot?
What can I do to "force" mutual recognition?
