I'm running Samba 1.9.18p3 and have problems with clients using a dialup connection with dynamic IP-addresses. If the client isn't in wins.dat then everything works OK with user authentification, login scripts etc. But a client which redial the modem pool and receive a new IP-address when the old data is left in wins.dat doesn't work properly. If the old entry is removed from wins.dat or if the client gets the same address as before then it works again. A laptop which is used both on the local lan and dialup is even worse. I have looked at the default ttl values for the nmbd/wins server and they seems to very long ( IMHO ): max ttl = 14400 s ( 4 Hours ) max wins ttl = 259200 s ( 3 Days ) min wins ttl = 21600 s ( 6 Hours ) If I don't touch the wins.dat then it takes about 3 days before the client works again using dialup. Has anybody tried to reduce these settings ? -- Lars Nilsson Senior Specialist - Data Communication Ericsson Telecom AB , Stockholm - Sweden E-mail: Lars.Nilsson@tnstp.ericsson.se
