Hi all. YAP (Yet Another Problem). I recently posted about the correct way to deal with encrypted vs nonencrypted passwords. I've gotten that to work, but I don't think its correct. So I'd still appreciate any ideas. Now my problem is I can browse the list of shares, but can't use any of them. This is NT4, Linux 2.0.31-pre9, samba-1.9.17p1. No SP3 patch applied. I currently have the following information: [wwwadmin] comment = WWW Admin path = /tmp valid users = steve public = no writable = yes printable = no create mask = 0765 I can see this share, but I can't get into it. No matter what username I use, it always responds with incorrect username. God a really hate windows. I can't remember the last time I lost my cool like this. I would have no problem pushing Bill Gates into oncoming traffic. None whatsoever. Dave
Hi there , I have a 7gig /u filesystem and my home directories point to it. How do I limit the users to 300megs each on there /home
hello;, 2 ways for this. Disk quotas (man quotas) on /u, or using max disk size = 300 (where 300 = 300 MB) in the [users] section of your smb.conf Olivier At 23:58 25/01/00 +1100, eugenef wrote:>Hi there , I have a 7gig /u filesystem and my home directories point to >it. >How do I limit the users to 300megs each on there /home*************************************************** Olivier TOURCHON olivier@infonie.fr ***************************************************

Hi, I want to implement home directories for all my users on my linux box using only [homes] share. I dont want to create 10000 shares for my 10000 users if I have 10000 users. When my users log on to his Windows and use network neighborhood to browse network I want samba to create a share which is that user's home directory on linux on the fly. Please help me with what should I put in my [homes] share and linux file system permission I should set for their home directory on linux. I aslo want to do like I usually do on W$. I have one folder called "users". I share it and in users folder there are home directories for all users. I only share users directory. Any users can open users directory and see all other users' home directory but he/she cant open other users' home directories. He/She can only open his/her directory. Can I do like this on Samba? Please give me the example if possible? One more thing, there seem to be fewer Access Control options than Windows, I call it ACL in W$. Is it possible to implement ACL for any shares like ACL in W$? Hi,> [homes] > comment = Home > path = %H > valid users = %S > read only = No > create mask = 0770 > directory mask = 0770I just leave the default setting and it works now. I dont set path and valid users as [homes] is special. Samba will create user's home directory share on the fly when I browse.> I aslo want to do like I usually do on W$. Samba 2.2.7 I have two different sets of users that I need to setup home directory paths for. Users in Group A need to be assigned to /ess02/work, and users in Group B need to be assigned to /ess01/work. Regardless of the group each user can only see their own directory under the given path. Is there a way to do this easily or do I need to setup a share for each user with the appropriate path? I setup the "homes" section but I cannot find a way to set the path dynamically. Hi. I installed Samba 3.0.0-2 recently. The problem is that when I try to access my user's home directory from it's Microsoft equivalent I get a window requesting username/password (I can't access the folder even if I provide correct credentials). The configuration worked fine on a previous versions of samba. I'm talking about specific share: [homes] comment = Home Directories browseable = no writable = yes valid users = %S I could access home directory of "peter" from Peter's windows account and now I can not:. I can't find much documentation for this new version of Samba but if anyone knows how to fix this-it would be great. Thanks in advance. Best regards
