I'm trying to run rsync on USS on a z/OS system.  Every time I try to run
the
Makefile, it returns with a "Don't know how to make ./*.c" error.

you mean you want to try to compile/build rsync on z/OS ?
don`t know if that works at all, but did the ./configure run complete without
errors at all ?

It looks like the "make" being used does not support wildcards, which
the rsync
makefile uses.  What versions of make is the makefile supposed to support? 
That should probably be documented in the INSTALL file.

This is not an rsync bug, so I'm closing this ticket.

If rsync requires a version of "make" that supports wildcards, that
should be
documented in INSTALL.  Support for wildcards does not appear to be part of
POSIX.1-2008
