With all the different features people want - almost makes me wonder if having an actual scripting language for rsync may be the best solution? Thought of integrating Perl in with rsync so it could use Perl to calculate its include/exclude lists and/or whatever else? I just say Perl as an example - could be something or somethings better to use than Perl that I don't know about. Eli.

Certainly something to think about more and look into the possibilities for a future version of rsync. ..wayne..
Need I remind you that the source code is freely-available? Implement the algorithm in perl, use that as a module, and build others around it.
