What is the process of upgrading from 8.0 to 9.x like? I installed the gems version of rails a few months, could someone who''s done it say if they have had any issues? Do you have to regenerate any files? -Jeff
The process is pretty straightforward. An exellent walktrhough is available on Heiraki at http://rails.hieraki.org/read/book/3, especially the final portion (http://rails.hieraki.org/read/chapter/29) which discusses automating this process. Saving AR records that were pushed_with_attributes
Consider this: foo = Foo.find(1) bar = Bar.find(1) foo.my_bars.push_with_attributes( bar, :some_attribute => "xyz" ) bar.save this will fail, because Class Bar knows nothing about the "some_attribute" that was sneaked into the object when it was pushed into the collection that foo holds and there is no column in Bar''s db table for "some_attribute" Likewise, it''s not simply possible to change a pushed bar once it has been pushed into a collection. I circumvent this by first deleting it and the re-pushing it. Is this something we will have to live with? Something that can (and should) be changed? Jens-Christian

Hello, I think you don''t have compiled ruby with readline support. So you will need do it yourself or use darwinports.org version of ruby which has it compiled in. I''m just assuming you are using Mac OS X by the name of your computer :-). -- Ing. I''m new to Ruby and Rails, so I''ve installed Ruby from "Pre-compiled disk image for OS X" found on http://homepage.mac.com/discord/Ruby/ Now, I''ve saw there is a new "Pre-compiled disk image for OS X" version (1.8.2) with GNU Readline 5.0 (installed by default, but optional). I''ll try this new version and tell. Thx. On Thu, 23 Dec 2004 12:46:25 +0100, Josef Pospíšil <pepe@gravastar.cz> wrote:> Hello, I think you don''t have compiled ruby with readline support. Make sure you disable the ruby version (1.6.x) that comes by default with Mac OS X as well, so that you don''t have problems with that... I''ve installed "Pre-compiled disk image for OS X" version (1.8.2), and Rails is working again!!! Thanks Josef and Bruno ;-) Colomain.
