Rails spinoffs - Apr 2008 - ajax.request not progressing

My ajax request doesn''t seem to be getting any further than being
created... I have the following code (it''s in a windows sidebar gadget
which is the reason for system.gadget etc... just think IE7)

new Ajax.Request(url, {
   method: ''GET'',
   asynchronus: ''true'',
   onCreate: 	function()
{System.Gadget.document.parentWindow.leads.innerHTML += ''<br
/>Request
Created'';},
   onLoading: 	function()
{System.Gadget.document.parentWindow.leads.innerHTML += ''<br
/>Loading
Data'';},
   onInteractive: 	function()
{System.Gadget.document.parentWindow.leads.innerHTML += ''<br
/
>Response Received'';},
   onSuccess: 	function()
{System.Gadget.document.parentWindow.leads.innerHTML += ''<br
/>Parsing
Data'';},
   onException: 	function()
{System.Gadget.document.parentWindow.leads.innerHTML
+''Exception...'';},
   onComplete: parseData });

the weird thing is that "Request Created" is outputted twice

when i enter the url used for the request in a normal browser window
it works just fine.

any ideas? Thanks

I should add that if I do

 window.setInterval(getData, 60000)

in my onload function, when the page refreshed it goes through the
ajax request just fine?!
