Rails spinoffs - Sep 2005 - Selecting multiple items and dragging / dropping them

Has anyone created something that will allow a user to select multiple items
using ctrl or shift or mouse and then drag / drop them into a container?

Basically, something like, user selects items using mouse, for every item
selected an array is updated with the id''s of the selected items. Then
if the user wants to drag them we create a div around those items and drag an
image of it (not actual elements, something like ghosting) and then when we drop
them on a container, the container knows exactly what all elements have been
dropped on it.

Any pointers to it would be very much appreciated.
