[R-jobs] Vacancy - PhD / Post-doctoral position at the University of Leiden.
TOP Institute Pharma (TI Pharma) has granted our proposal to set up a mechanism-based PKPD modelling platform. This platform focuses on the transfer of knowledge from academia to the pharmaceutical industry and is a collaborative effort of four excellent academic institutes and six leading global pharmaceutical industries. Unique to this platform is the availability of shared databases on disease and drug related parameters. The aim of the platform is to provide a scientific basis for rational drug discovery and development with a strong focus on priority medicines. Among the various working groups, a research program has been started to evaluate biomarkers and disease progression in COPD using longitudinal models. The primary scope of this investigation is to establish which markers of disease have predictive value for the outcome of efficacy trials. Subsequently, modelling will be used to optimise clinical trial design and characterise the relevance of different clinical trial factors and procedures on study power, bias and treatment effect size. Translational aspects will also be explored to allow better extrapolation from preclinical to clinical findings. The approach is based on hierarchical models and relies on the use of advanced statistical software tools such as NONMEM, WINBUGS and R. We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student or post-doctoral scientist to investigate the research questions indicated above. This appointment will be for 2 (post-doctoral fellowship) or 4 years (PhD programme) Requirements: The post-doctoral fellow should have the following background and competencies: A strong background in statistical modelling & simulation and/or Bayesian statistics A degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Medicine, Biopharmaceutical Sciences, Physiology or equivalent scientific training Bird eyes? view Conceptual thinker Problem-solving and coaching skills are essential Ambitious Creative Interested to perform research in a unique multidisciplinary setting Organisation The Leiden Division of Pharmacology at the Leiden/Amsterdam Center for Drug Research (LACDR) has a long-standing expertise in the development of Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic (PKPD) models to predict efficacy and safety of drugs. Conditions of employment The employment for this position will be full time for 2 or 4 years. Additional conditions of employment: You will work as a team member of a TI Pharma project. The project team comprises academic and industrial partners. In this case, the partners are: University of Leiden, University of Groningen, the University Medical Center of Utrecht, the Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam and the companies Eli Lilly, Johnson & Johnson, GSK, Nycomed, Organon/Schering Plough and Pfizer. You will attend a unique drug discovery education and training program offered by TI Pharma.
