I'm on a testing (now lenny) distribution, and for a couple of weeks now,
several packages are being held back (some major ones like locales and
libc6). I've been using the unstable R packages, but now some of these
can't be upddated because the newer locales and libc6 are not updated.
This is the message I get when trying to update locales:
---<---------------cut here---------------start-------------->---
sudo apt-get install locales
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
libc6 libc6-dev libc6-i386
Suggested packages:
glibc-doc
The following packages will be REMOVED:
tzdata util-linux
The following packages will be upgraded:
libc6 libc6-dev libc6-i386 locales
WARNING: The following essential packages will be removed.
This should NOT be done unless you know exactly what you are doing!
util-linux tzdata (due to util-linux)
4 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 2 to remove and 17 not upgraded.
Need to get 14.8MB of archives.
After unpacking 7029kB disk space will be freed.
You are about to do something potentially harmful.
To continue type in the phrase 'Yes, do as I say!'

The message is ominous, hence my answer. Is this a matter of waiting
until util-linux and tzdata use the new libc6?
