R help - Oct 1998 - Request for help with compiling R on a DEC Alpha

I am currently attempting to install R (v0.62.3) on our DEC Alpha computer,
and have solved one problem but now am having another:

When issuing the 'make' (after ./configure), I get the error shown at
the
end of this output:

I don't know why the 'make' is failing, as it seems to give no clue.
I have
verified that there is sufficient space on this filesystem.

There's a conspicuous lack of X11 libraries in that command, perhaps
configure couldn't find them (or you never installed them)?
