This problem I previously reported with R 0.62.1 persists with R 0.62.2. I had thought it was SunOS 5.6 but it seems now that it may be related to an incomplete or defective version of gcc or g77 (which I upgraded to 2.8.1 to use SunOS 5.6). I do not yet have f2c installed but my understanding is that that it is no longer necessary. There are no compiling errors reported and when R is started the only reported errors are Error: Object "colors" not found Error: couldn't find function "Version" However, the situation is much worse, as q() is not found either. It seems the loading of the whole of library/base/R/base is failing, though that is not reported. It does not appear to be a problem with that file, as Peter D. previously suggested might be the case. I can source the whole file into a version of R compiled with the older compiler. It does seem that several different libraries are referenced depending on which version of the compiler I use, but I don't get any reported errors so it is hard to tell what is going wrong. If anyone has ideas or suggestions about how to debug this I would appreciate it.
