There have recently been several postings etc that the R FAQ provides incorrect information. What really is the case is that the info is OUTDATED. The FAQ is for version 0.49, as more or less explicitly stated in 2.3, ``What is the Current Version of R?''. The sort-of current Unix version of R, 0.50-a4, was meant as an alpha version (hence the a4) rather than a full release. By the time 0.50 could have come out, several major changes were ready for merging into the the distribution, and we decided to put out the interim version and incorporate the changes right away. Unfortunately, I had already gone ahead updating the FAQ to reflect these changes, and did not feel like undoing them and keeping 2 FAQ versions for some time. In any case, the new 0.60 should be released in the very near future, and an updated version of the FAQ along with it. Future versions of the FAQ will also have a version number which reflects the R version number the FAQ is for. -kh =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-r-help mailing list -- Read http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/~hornik/R/R-FAQ.html Send "info", "help", or "[un]subscribe" (in the "body", not the subject !)
