R devel - Oct 2006 - WISH: "R CMD build" should use the (correct) package name (PR#9266)

Since R version 2.3.0 "R CMD check" and "R CMD INSTALL" work
for packages whose
package name is different from the directory name in which it is located (see
http://cran.r-project.org/src/base/NEWS). While "R CMD check" and
"R CMD
INSTALL" determine the correct package name from the DESCRIPTION file,
"R CMD
build" uses the directory name (and not the package name) for the file name
of
the source package and for the base directory inside this .tar.gz archive (see
also http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e2/devel/06/09/0406.html).
Please let "R CMD build" determine the correct package name from the
DESCRIPTION
file.

I happened to be looking at that myself yesterday.
It is relatively easy to get the package name
from the DESCRIPTION file and not the directory name.
But there are other issues. I'll look into this further
in a week or two.
