R devel - Mar 2003 - R-1.7.0beta_2003-03-28 Could not create DVI version

With this morning's build (R-1.7.0beta_2003-03-28.tar.gz from
<http://cran.us.r-project.org/src/base/> ) I get make check to work on
Solaris 5.8 with gcc 2.95.2 and on Mandrake 9.0.

For my own packages, on Solaris "R CMD build" is generating a tarball
but when I "R CMD check" it I get 

...
* checking package vignettes in 'inst/doc' ... OK
* creating setRNG-manual.tex ... OK
* checking setRNG-manual.tex ... ERROR
Could not create DVI version.
This typically indicates Rd problems.


This works on Mandrake and on Solaris the Rd files pass all the checks I
do before building the tarball, so I doubt it is the Rd files. more
likely it is a defective version of some latex tool. Any suggestions?
