It *is* package dependency, exactly. lattice is wholly dependent upon grid,
so, in short,
no grid, no lattice. On windows, I believe the installation of binary
packages simply unzip the package zip file(s) to the appropriate folder. No
checks for dependency until loading time.
To R-devel: Can package dependencies be checked at installed time, at least
for source packages?
