Right. A few weeks ago I did some quick and ugly improvements to
plot.date(.).
The warning (not error) message is generated by axis(.) which is called
within plot.date(.). This warning message can be ignored.
If anyone is interested in fixing this ...
There is also no dacumentation to pot.date(.) in package "date".
