This is my first attempt with Puppet, and I''m working on FreeBSD 9.2
with
Puppet 3.3.1 and Ruby 2.0. I''m starting with just a very simple example
to
get my feet wet:
node ''myhost'' {
package { ''devel/jsmin'':
ensure => ''installed'',
provider => ''ports''
}
}
When I apply this with:
puppet apply -v --debug manifests/site.pp
I get a bunch of output about selinux and other Linuxisms (making think
that I should be specifying that ''myhost'' is FreeBSD?), and
finally it
starts to install the port I want:
Debug: Prefetching ports resources for package
Debug: Executing ''/usr/sbin/pkg_info -aoQ''
Debug: Executing ''/usr/sbin/pkg_info -aoQ''
Debug: Executing ''/usr/local/sbin/portupgrade -N -M BATCH=yes
devel/jsmin''
It seems like it''s working, but it actually just stalls here. Running
that
last command by hand finishes in a few seconds, and the BATCH=yes option in
there ensures that user input is never needed. I''m kind of stuck at
this
point, as beyond adding -v and --debug, I don''t know how to further
diagnose things. I can see that the process is running in my `ps` output,
but I can''t think of why it would be stalled.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Am I crazy for using Puppet on FreeBSD?
It seems like very few other people must be based on my Google searches and
available documentation.
Thanks,
Patrick
