Hello, I am trying to install puppet client on RHEL5 & 6 servers for a proof of concept. According to the doc, all that should be needed is to run "yum puppet install" but it fails because of missing ruby dependencies. active repos: epel Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 5 - x86_64 7,124 puppetlabs-deps Puppet Labs Dependencies El 5 - x86_64 26 puppetlabs-products Puppet Labs Products El 5 - x86_64 86 Howcome ruby is not available on Puppet Labs repo ? Do I have to manually install ruby and ruby-libs (and their dependencies ) from rpms ? Thx Chris -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. Ruby is in the base repos (or optional channel in RHEL 6), so there isn''t a need for us to provide it. It is provided by the distro vendor. RHEL 5 and RHEL 6 have slightly different requirements. Which are you trying first ? What errors are you getting ? Pleas ebe detailed without flooding the list. If the errors are huge, use pastebin “Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.” Bill Waterson (Calvin & Hobbes) ----- unixman <unixman@videotron.ca> wrote:> Hello, > I am trying to install puppet client on RHEL5 & 6 servers for a proof of > concept. > > According to the doc, all that should be needed is to run "yum puppet > install" but it fails because of missing ruby dependencies. > > active repos: > epel > Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 5 - > x86_64 7,124 > puppetlabs-deps > Puppet Labs Dependencies El 5 - > x86_64 26 > puppetlabs-products > Puppet Labs Products El 5 - > x86_64 > 86 > > Howcome ruby is not available on Puppet Labs repo ? > Do I have to manually install ruby and ruby-libs (and their dependencies ) > from rpms ? > > Thx > > Chris > > -- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. > To view this discussion on the web visit https://groups.google.com/d/msg/puppet-users/-/XRkJ-w-_AVsJ. > To post to this group, send email to puppet-users@googlegroups.com. > To unsubscribe from this group, send email to puppet-users+unsubscribe@googlegroups.com. > For more options, visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/puppet-users?hl=en. >-- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. Suggest using puppet enterprise which has a fairly thorough installer and a complete set of custom packages to ease the installation. The license-pricing beyond the initial ten-free is not unreasonable and you get additional important features. See website for details on differences between puppet enterprise and open puppet. --Stuart Via Apple iPhone 4S on the AT&T Wireless Network On Aug 6, 2012, at 11:21 AM, unixman <unixman@videotron.ca> wrote:> Hello, > I am trying to install puppet client on RHEL5 & 6 servers for a proof of concept. > > According to the doc, all that should be needed is to run "yum puppet install" but it fails because of missing ruby dependencies. > > active repos: > epel Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 5 - x86_64 7,124 > puppetlabs-deps Puppet Labs Dependencies El 5 - x86_64 26 > puppetlabs-products Puppet Labs Products El 5 - x86_64 86 > > Howcome ruby is not available on Puppet Labs repo ? > Do I have to manually install ruby and ruby-libs (and their dependencies ) from rpms ? > > Thx > > Chris > -- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. > For more options, visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/puppet-users?hl=en.-- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group.
