[Puppet Users] Puppet in Education: Imaging and Maintenance
Hi All, I''m wondering if anyone''s been using Puppet in the K-12 Education field for any Mac System Imaging or Maintenance? I''ve been setting up the infrastructure to do so, but am interested in how other School Sysadmins are handling this. Right now I''m using it to take a base image that will be deployed out to clients (containing 10.5.7 Combo Updater, Facter, Puppet, and a LaunchDaemon that triggers puppetd), and then using Nodes in Puppet to send down DMGs for all the Apps that need to be installed. MCX controls and login scripts will take care of the rest. Right now I''m testing with static nodes for every client, but I''m going through documentation this week on how to create "groups" that will define which modules each host should receive. I''m having some problems with a possible hostname race condition after you deploy the image to the client (The last thing done after I deploy the image is to bind the client to our OD infrastructure. Workgroup Manager already has Computer accounts set with hostnames, and MCX Prefs set the hostname, but sometimes I get a cert request for "localhost" or "Macintosh.local.), but it seems to be fixed after a restart. I appreciate if anyone out there is doing the same thing and possibly has any suggestions (especially about the nodes). Thanks! -Gary --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group.
