So as the list of Who Is Using Puppet grows, I''m wondering if we should
entertain a new strategy to maintain this list. I think a better strategy
might be to start breaking things down into case study groups.
For instance, we could find logical breakdowns to form categories and then
have case studies in those categories. For example, Stanford uses puppet
to manage several dozen classes of servers with only a handful of servers
of each class type (what I call the "broad and shallow" approach). I
am
aware of other institutions that are using Puppet to have a very minimum
set of differences in server classes and have hundreds of servers or
workstations of that class ("deep and narrow").
I''m sure there are other categories we could come up with.
And when you click into these categories, rather than just a simple list of
who is using puppet in these ways, everyone could write a one page
case-study to describe their deployment and experiences. I would suggest
the order be alphabetical.
Thoughts?

Really, it''d be great to have a general "Puppet User" document type, and then have the ability to do relatively arbitrary organizations. This way you could, for instance, look for Puppet-using organizations in the local area, or in the same industry. -- You''ve got to take the bitter with the sour. -- Samuel Goldwyn --------------------------------------------------------------------- Luke Kanies | http://reductivelabs.com | http://madstop.com --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. We are using Puppet, but other than any manifests we may share with the community, we''re not saying specifically what we''re using it for. Our leadership team doesn''t want the general public (broader than just this community) thinking that we recommend or endorse particular software tools, since our general stance is to stay platform/tool agnostic. -joshua --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group.
