Puppet users - Nov 2006 - 0.20.1 deb from the site not quite working

I''m trying to use the 0.20.1 deb from the reductivelabs site and it
doesn''t
seem to create the /var/lib/puppet directory even though my puppetd.conf 
file has:

vardir=/var/lib/puppet

So, when I try the second run, it fails with:
Could not lock puppetd: No such file or directory - 
/var/lib/puppet/state/puppetdlock

I think this is because the debs on reductivelabs.com are  
incompatible with the official debs maintained by Matt and Jamie,  
although I''m not exactly sure where.  Do you have a statedir set in  
your config?  I think the official debs set that to be outside of / 
var/lib/puppet.  This is still a problem we need to solve -- make all  
of the packages consistent.

I''m disabling the debs created during the build process, and
I''ve
asked Matt to either commit his deb work to the main process  
(unlikely, so that they remain separate, which is important in  
Debian) or to consistently create new packages, even if he doesn''t  
submit them to Debian itself.
