[Pkg-xen-devel] Bug#712661: xen-utils-common: xl start HVM domU instead of PV if disk placed on file
Package: xen-utils-common Version: 4.1.4-3+deb7u1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, i changed toolkit to xl, after that i observe that my domU started as HVM domains. I found same problem here: http://mail-index.netbsd.org/port-xen/2012/04/11/msg007216.html When i manualy setup loop devices and specify it as disks in my VM conf file, domU started as PV. -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.1 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages xen-utils-common depends on: ii gawk 1:4.0.1+dfsg-2.1 ii lsb-base 4.1+Debian8+deb7u1 ii python 2.7.3-4 ii ucf 3.0025+nmu3 ii udev 175-7.2 ii xenstore-utils 4.1.4-3+deb7u1 xen-utils-common recommends no packages. xen-utils-common suggests no packages. -- Configuration Files: /etc/default/xendomains changed: XENDOMAINS_SAVEXENDOMAINS_RESTORE=false XENDOMAINS_AUTO=/etc/xen/auto XENDOMAINS_STOP_MAXWAIT=300 /etc/xen/xend-config.sxp changed: (#xend-unix-server yes) (vif-script vif-bridge) (dom0-min-mem 196) (enable-dom0-ballooning yes) (total_available_memory 0) (dom0-cpus 0) (vncpasswd '') /etc/xen/xl.conf changed: autoballoon=1 lockfile="/var/lock/xl" vifscript="vif-bridge" -- no debconf information

Note that the presence of a qemu process does not necessarily correspond to HVM, since qemu can also under some circumstances be used to provide a PV disk backend. And just to clarify: Neither your dom0 not your domU are BSD? Both are Debian Linux? Ian.

The existance of a qemu-dm process does not necesarily mean HVM, but it can be used to support stuff the kernel does not.> I found same problem here: http://mail-index.netbsd.org/port-xen/2012/04/11/msg007216.htmlThis is about NetBSD and not about HVM.
