[Pkg-exim4-users] Re : main option bounce_message_file doesn''t work with Exim4 in Debian
Hi Marc, I haven''t tried exim -bP (I don''t know really Exim''s command line options). I''m going to try this evening. What is sure is that I have no error at all in all Exim log files, and no mention of accessing my customized file : the option is simply ignored. I don''t understand your last question (sorry for my poor English) : "Does an straced exim show the file being accessed?" One remark I''ve just thought about: my bounce message is generated after fetchmail retrieves my emails from my external accounts, and the reason of the bounce message is the detection of spam... Is it possible that for this particular case the "bounce mechanism" differs somehow and consequently the option is not the correct one ? Does it also show up in exim -bP output? Does your exim complain in the logs about the file contents? Does an straced exim show the file being accessed? Greetings Marc

I would be interested to learn whether your exim opens your bounce file.> One remark I''ve just thought about: my bounce message is generated after > fetchmail retrieves my emails from my external accounts, and the reason of the > bounce message is the detection of spam... Are you sure that it is really your exim generating the bounce, or is it fetchmail or some other program? Can you show log entries for the delivery of such a bounce? Anyway, it is a bad bad idea to bounce spam after accepting it. Better silently discard it, or you''ll generate spam backscatter.
