After making quite a few circles around one particular issue (and eventually resolving it) I have a suggestion to make: Append the following to http://www.openssh.org/faq.html#2.7 "NOTE: In order to agent forwarding to work you need to have xauth installed in the remote host. In Debian xauth is in 'xbase-clients' package." And about that "F" in "FAQ". I have confirmed that at least one person other than me has had the same issue. :) -- Tero Tilus ########### http://www.iki.fi/tero.tilus/ http://www.maahinkainen.org/ ## http://www.effi.org/

In Debian xauth is in 'xbase-clients' > package."xauth has nothing to do with agent forwarding. I assume you meant X11 forwarding? -- Darren Tucker (dtucker at zip.com.au) GPG key 8FF4FA69 / D9A3 86E9 7EEE AF4B B2D4 37C9 C982 80C7 8FF4 FA69 Good judgement comes with experience. Sorry about mixup. No problem, I was just wondering if Debian had some kind of weird interdependency :-) I have added the following paragraph: "X11 forwarding requires a working xauth(1) binary. On OpenBSD this is in the xbase file set but will probably be different on other platforms. For OpenSSH Portable, xauth must be either found at configure time or specified via XAuthLocation in sshd_config(5) and ssh_config(5)." -- Darren Tucker (dtucker at zip.com.au) GPG key 8FF4FA69 / D9A3 86E9 7EEE AF4B B2D4 37C9 C982 80C7 8FF4 FA69 Good judgement comes with experience.
