Hi, I have a Liebert GXT2-1000RT230 UPS that is connected to my server using a serial cable. I have no idea to what port exactly it is connected so my first question is: how do I find out what /dev/tty** should I use? Do I need to install a device driver for it? Where do I find it? What should I use and how do I do so the server shuts down if the battery level is low? Yes, I'm a newby, sorry. Please help, thanks

The problem that I have is that the UPS powers down too quickly after it gives the 'shutdown' warning. There is some nasty Java application that is supposed to control it, but I can't make it work. The trouble is that the protocol to describe how to configure it is deemed proprietary -- I have contacted Liebert, the guy reluctantly said that he would ask managagement if they would release the specs, never came back to me. I suggest that we mark Liebert as 'partly' supported. Until I can control Liebert properly I would not buy another one and would not want others to make the same mistake. The web site just lists things as supported -- some indication of quality/goodness of support would be nice. -- Alain Williams Linux Consultant - Mail systems, Web sites, Networking, Programmer, IT Lecturer. +44 (0) 787 668 0256 http://www.phcomp.co.uk/ Parliament Hill Computers Ltd. Hi, Well I was able to make it workwith a java application called MultiLink which I downloaded from the Liebert website. The bad part of this Java app is that it requires a XWindow system like KDE or Gnome.
