Unfortunately, many cheap ones don't or have implementation flaws (the Sweex 1000 for instance, which calculates the CRC in the wrong way). In fact, there are a fair number of UPSes in the list of supported UPSes that use (relay) contact closure interfacing which by nature is not able to do serial PnP. For UPSes that do support it (MGE for instance and many APC models), it might be a nice feature though.
