Hi Mapstractors, over the past few months I''ve been frustrated by the fact that we occasionally get emails from people who have invested time and energy on playing with mapstraction, only to then realize they played with v1 not v2. The mistake is understandable in that currently http://mapstraction.com/ has loads of links to v1, and very few to v2. it''s easy to overlook. Added to that is the issue that much of the text, example links, etc is outdated, dead, etc. In my opinion it''s a rough first introduction to the project. So..... I asked one of my colleagues - Nomsa Buchholz, to put together a much simpler page. Please see the result here: http://www.opencage.co.uk/mapstraction/ v1 links are still available, but not prominent. Text is simplified and hopefully more maintainable. Please let us know what you think. Unless there is serious objection we''ll submit later this week.
Thanks for taking the initiative on this, Ed. And thank you Nomsa for your contribution. I think we should put it up. Great, Ed, definitely an improvement! Some suggestions: The download link to should point to http://github.com/mapstraction/mxn/downloads. Would be nice to have a page linking to other Mapstraction projects/plugins, E.g., the WordPress and Drupal plugins. Perhaps a high level getting started page? The bullets, at least in Safari, need some left margin/padding. Rather than just the link to Twitter, include a simple Twitter widget to show latest Tweets, http://twitter.com/goodies/widgets On Sep 14, 2010, at 10:47 AM, Ed Freyfogle wrote:> Hi Mapstractors, > > over the past few months I''ve been frustrated by the fact that we > occasionally get emails from people who have invested time and energy > on playing with mapstraction, only to then realize they played with v1 > not v2. Hey, Why not use a MediaWiki install? This would allow everyone to help out with the documentation, and result into higher quality content. Hi, thanks for your feedback, glad you all like the page. I will add the links in the next days. concerning the bullets, actually, afaik typographically they should be hanging bullets, see e.g.: http://www.markboulton.co.uk/journal/comments/five-simple-steps-to-better-typography-part-2 :-) about the twitter widget: seeing as the twitter account only has three tweets I''m worried a widget would clutter up the page without really offering a lot of additional value. cheers, nomsa Lev Tsypin wrote:> On Sep 14, 2010, at 10:58 AM, Ed Freyfogle wrote: > >> good feedback. comments inline below >> >> 2010/9/14 Lev Tsypin <lev at levelos.com <mailto:lev at levelos.com>> >> >> Great, Ed, definitely an improvement! FYI I just submitted a pull request in git with the changes. Not clear to me how it now actually gets onto the server.
