Building a native CIFS implementation is extremely complicated, we are
not . Building a Lustre backend to Samba is possible and the liblustre
framework might help. But it''s not clear to me that this will really
help a lot. The samba team told me that most gains can be achieved by
implementing parallel I/O (see below) and case inssensitive lookup.
Case insensitive lookup, using a case sensitive htree hash (?) is
interesting and perhaps possible in the MDS framework?
We will be releasing a (proprietary) Windows filter driver that will
access multiple samba servers in parallel based on Lustre striping
information.
