We are also using qemu 1.2 prerelease in Fedora 18 and we're
not seeing this problem. All of the tests (including extra-tests)
run perfectly.
More precisely, we are using qemu git 3e430569 and I checked
that it includes the commit above. We also apply other patches
to qemu, but none of them seem relevant:

The only thing I can suggest is trying qemu from git. I've
not tried that for a while.
