LARTC - Apr 2004 - tc class htb

Hi, 

 I am new to this group.

I use this script  

tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: htb

tc class add dev eth0 parent 1:0 classid 1:1 htb rate 500kbit ceil 500kbit 

tc class add dev eth0 parent 1:1 classid 1:2 htb rate 300Kbit ceil 500kbit 

tc class add dev eth0 parent 1:1 classid 1:3 htb rate 200kbit ceil 500kbit 

I like to know:

If two customers of the same class (for example 1:2) work simultaneously, what
is that every customer is going to have  the rate  of this class (300Kbit for
the example class 1:2)  or they share this debit?

Everyone in the same class (1:2) shares the same rate and ceiling.

They will both use the bandwidth the class provides. If the class is at 
it''s limit, they''ll steal each others bandwidth, since HTB
doesn''t care
where the traffic comes from. If you want fair sharing between the two 
customers, you have to give each of them their own class.
