I'm looking for a starting hosting service. I'd like to start my online radio station but don't want to pay hundreds of dollars. I don't need many streams maybe about 10 just to start with. Is there an inexpensive provider out there? Thanks
--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'icecast-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. Broadcasting is very cheap. It's you that needs to be up and ready. You area looking at about $1.00 per stream @ 80ks or more. Meaning that if you have 30 users connected, you are looking at about 30$/month. You broadcast from your home DSL or cable to the server/bounce off the server and broadcast to 30 people. You would not be able to do that from your house so you need a bouncer. Shop around... check out www.webhostingtalk.com I am paying $150/month for dedicated server and the downside is the bandwidth.... IT'S ALL ABOUT bandwidth, bandwidth and one more time! the BANDWIDTH! You can be running a small Pentium 400mhz with 500mb ram slim 1u server but if you got the bandwidth you are set. One piece of advice.... DO YOUR RESEARCH... dont' just jump in. -- mp3bynet.com

> -----Original Message-----> From: owner-icecast@xiph.org [mailto:owner-icecast@xiph.org] > On Behalf Of Tigran > Sent: Tuesday, May 14, 2002 9:10 PM > To: icecast@xiph.org > Subject: [icecast] icecast hosting > > > I'm looking for a starting hosting service. > > I'd like to start my online radio station but don't want to > pay hundreds of > dollars. > > I don't need many streams maybe about 10 just to start with. > > Is there an inexpensive provider out there? > > Thanks > > > --- >8 ---- > List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ > icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ > To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to > 'icecast-request@xiph.org' containing only the word > 'unsubscribe' in the body. 30 streams at 1dollar = 30 dollars. 30 times 80 = 2,400 kbps upstream 2,400 kbps upstream for $30 Where the hell do you find those deals? I'm interested too. I probably am not interpreting you message correctly. Please clarify. Raymond Nicolae wrote:> Broadcasting is very cheap.
