It should be noted that this fee applies only if you are delivering in mp3 format "for profit." If you're doing it for free, you don't have to pay them a dime.. from the quoted URL... I thought the minimum was $2,000. If you are streaming "for fun" instead of for profit, will the RIAA give you a hard time (assuming you don't allow selectable songs, or more than 3 from the same CD per hour), or is that free too? Great Jack,. I read your article in Streaming Media Mag several months ago. I new this was coming. Where do I start. I have been doing Shoutcast and apparently AOL pays for the licensing but for how long. I would like to start learning how to do icecast. My server is FreeBSD. Where do I start? Hi all: I was just wondering when the multiple streams stuff might be checked in to cvs. I remember the gentleman working on it saying he basically had it running? The reason I'm asking is that I have received a number of requests to stream my mp3 stream at various bitrates. I kind of think running three ices streamers is silly if multiple streams will be available in the near future. Another question is the ices2.x cvs the same as for ices1.x and if so what is the module name? Will ices2.x be able to reencode either ogg or mp3 files? It would be nice if I could start mixing vorbis material in with my mp3 without having to start all over. And one other point, which isn't a question at all, I believe Jack or someone mentioned that ices didn't work with the current lame 3.89. I have successfully compiled ices with the current lame cvs. All that need be done is either change the #include <lame.h> in reencode.c to #include <lame/lame.h> or make a symlink in /usr/include to point to the lame.h in the lame subdirectory. Anyway, thanx to anyone that takes the time to answer my above questions. Does not the sales of advertisement go against this statement, in particular that last line? I might not charge, but I charge advertisers. Technically the stream is not "free" then is it not? I realize this is a fine line (splitting hairs), but does anyone honestly think Thompson is going to let people making money on something that is free to consumers stand? I just started setting up icecast again, after having my dsl down due to the northpoint virus.. this time I did the ./configure --with-crypt option. According to the comments in the config file, I also need to compile the "included" mkpasswd.c. Well, in the 1.3.10 tarball, there is no mkpasswd.c, no mkpasswd*, not even anything *pass*.. any ideas on where else this may be? -------signature file------- PGP Key Fingerprint: 446B 7718 B219 9F1E 43DD 8E4A 6BE9 D739 CCC5 7FD7 "I don't think [Linux] will be very successful in the long run." That's probably streaming related revenue. Do you list on shoutcast.com? There's definately stremaing related revenue there. Do you broadcast through live365? DEFINATELY streaming related revenue. Maybe you won't have to pay, but someone is going to eat 2% in most cases. jack. --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'icecast-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body.
