freebsd stable - Feb 2005 - Upgrade issues, Install Kernel crashing

Hello,
    I have a major issue.  I?m trying to do a 4.X to 5.X upgrade.  The
CD boots fine then I get to the FreeBSD 5.x boot selection menu, but
when I then an option to load a Kernel the kernel starts to load and
then I get a bunch of gibberish that goes by so fast I can?t read it
then the system reboots.  What is going on here?

What system are you trying to install to? Can you try hooking up a serial
console and booting to it to capture the messages? have you tried Safe
Mode?
