I plan to commit the MFC at http://www.josef-k.net/freebsd/ (the latest one) in the next couple of days. If you really care about USB in 4.10 you might do well to test this on your equipment, ESPECIALLY if you have unusual devices. Let me know of both successes and failures please.. If I hear nothing I won't know if it's because no-one tested it or it was just without problems.. Please also check these same devices without the patch BEFORE you let me know of any failures so that we can tell if they are truely caused by the patch.. I hope to commit on Sunday Afternoon California time.. (around 23:00 Sunday UTC) I will then move on to merging in the EHCI USB-2.0 driver.

Well, my main headache (SONY Clie SJ20) is now in a bit different state; before (at 4.9p1) it failed to attach with ucom0: Palm, Inc. Palm Handheld, rev 1.00/1.00, addr 2 ucom0: Palm, Inc. Palm Handheld, rev 1.00/1.00, addr 2 ucom0: init failed, STALLED device_probe_and_attach: ucom0 attach returned 6 ugen0: Palm, Inc. Palm Handheld, rev 1.00/1.00, addr 2 now it is correctly identified (after HotSync activation) as ucom0: Palm, Inc. Palm Handheld, rev 1.00/1.00, addr 2 ucom0: Palm, Inc. Palm Handheld, rev 1.00/1.00, addr 2 Controller /dev/usb0: addr 1: low speed, self powered, config 1, UHCI root hub(0x0000), Intel(0x0000), rev 1.00 port 1 powered port 2 addr 2: low speed, self powered, config 1, Palm Handheld(0x0066), Palm, Inc.(0x054c), rev 1.00 However, I still can't figure out how to sync, as dlpsh can't attach to /dev/ucom before activatyng Sync, and never goes to the shell prompt when statring in the middle of sync process. Googling does not help much, unfortunately. Two other USB devices I have are USB Generic storage (CF reader and MP3 player), and they seem to keep work smoothly. I had I/O errors and hangups with cheap MemoryStick reader before, but do not have it by hand to quick check. Hope to check tomorrow. Thanks for your work! Feb 28 22:32:52 ted /kernel: link_elf: symbol usb_allocmem undefined Everything does work fine with usb in the kernel, and I can load additional usb modules in that case (e.g. GENERIC plus snd_uaudio.ko works) Also, share/man/man4/uaudio.4 is not connected to the build with the latest patch.

Adding usb_mem.c to SRCS in /sys/modules/usb/Makefile seems to fix this - my USB mouse, flash reader and cheap-ass 'pen drive' all appear to be working as before. One strange thing though - booting from my usual kernel (which loads most things from modules) I get some extra whining when the USB ports are being probed: uhci0: <VIA 83C572 USB controller> port 0xd800-0xd81f irq 10 at device 7.2 on pci0 usb0: <VIA 83C572 USB controller> on uhci0 usb0: USB revision 1.0 uhub0: VIA UHCI root hub, class 9/0, rev 1.00/1.00, addr 1 uhub0: 2 ports with 2 removable, self powered uhub0: port error, restarting port 1 uhub0: port error, giving up port 1 umass0: Generic Mass Storage Device, rev 1.10/1.00, addr 2 umass0: Get Max Lun not supported (STALLED) uhub0: port error, restarting port 2 uhub0: port error, giving up port 2 umass1: DMI MultiFlash, rev 1.10/1.00, addr 3 uhci1: <VIA 83C572 USB controller> port 0xdc00-0xdc1f irq 10 at device 7.3 on pci0 usb1: <VIA 83C572 USB controller> on uhci1 usb1: USB revision 1.0 uhub1: VIA UHCI root hub, class 9/0, rev 1.00/1.00, addr 1 uhub1: 2 ports with 2 removable, self powered uhub1: port error, restarting port 1 uhub1: port error, giving up port 1 ugen0: LEGO Group LEGO USB Tower, rev 1.10/1.00, addr 2 uhub1: port error, restarting port 2 uhub1: port error, giving up port 2 ums0: Logitech USB Receiver, rev 1.10/9.10, addr 3, iclass 3/1 ums0: 5 buttons and Z dir. Booting from a GENERIC built from the same sources, I don't get any of the 'port error' messages: uhci0: <VIA 83C572 USB controller> port 0xd800-0xd81f irq 10 at device 7.2 on pci0 usb0: <VIA 83C572 USB controller> on uhci0 usb0: USB revision 1.0 uhub0: VIA UHCI root hub, class 9/0, rev 1.00/1.00, addr 1 uhub0: 2 ports with 2 removable, self powered umass0: Generic Mass Storage Device, rev 1.10/1.00, addr 2 umass0: Get Max Lun not supported (STALLED) umass1: DMI MultiFlash, rev 1.10/1.00, addr 3 uhci1: <VIA 83C572 USB controller> port 0xdc00-0xdc1f irq 10 at device 7.3 on pci0 usb1: <VIA 83C572 USB controller> on uhci1 usb1: USB revision 1.0 uhub1: VIA UHCI root hub, class 9/0, rev 1.00/1.00, addr 1 uhub1: 2 ports with 2 removable, self powered ugen0: LEGO Group LEGO USB Tower, rev 1.10/1.00, addr 2 ums0: Logitech USB Receiver, rev 1.10/9.10, addr 3, iclass 3/1 ums0: 5 buttons and Z dir. This doesn't seems to have any effect on whether things work or not though, other than the umass devices coming up on different SCSI busses if I don't load USB from the module, but I think that has always been the case. Otherwise it looks good. Will this patch be MFCd any time soon or was this part just forgotten, as the other minor patches (usbdevs.h, usbdevs_data.h) made it to 4.9-STABLE? Regards, Holger Kipp

umass panic (after detaching/attaching card-reader 3 times)
Greetings, I experience a very repeatably but unwanted behaviour with umass/usb: System hangs/panics after detaching and attaching 8-in-1 Card Reader several times. Card Reader is attached to Cypress Semiconductor Slim Hub (ie not directly), but using the built-in hub give the same results. Please not that currently this happens _without_ any card inserted into the card-reader. Please let me know if additional information is needed (syslog below).
