flac dev - Aug 2007 - lossless codecs in wireless headphones.

just came across this article.

Many of you would be already aware of this. It mentions flac also. i feel it
is a good segment(stereo wireless headsets over bluetooth) to push flac
given very light decoder and using encoder at low compression(to reduce
complexity). Though very less is known in terms of compression and
complexity about this proprietary codec(SoundAbout Lossless codec), i feel
possibility of pitching flac as a standard for stereo-audio over bluetooth
should be explored.

I saw that too.  a lot of EE times articles are just regurgitated
PR, which is fine I guess for trade magazines, but usually not that
balanced.  as you hint at, FLAC latency can be tuned down to the 2-10
msec range too, and libFLAC has encoding modes that are nearly as
fast as decoding.  even more is possible with a hardware
implementation, but it's been a while since I wrote any HDL and don't
have the spare time for it.
