[Flac-dev] [aottley@shaw.ca: Bug#203581: xmms-flac: Plugin misplays certain valid files]
----- Forwarded message from Adam Ottley <aottley@shaw.ca> ----- Date: Wed, 30 Jul 2003 19:48:16 -0600 From: Adam Ottley <aottley@shaw.ca> Resent-From: Adam Ottley <aottley@shaw.ca> To: Debian Bug Tracking System <submit@bugs.debian.org> Subject: Bug#203581: xmms-flac: Plugin misplays certain valid files Package: xmms-flac Version: 1.1.0-9 Severity: normal Certain apparently-valid .flac files are mishandled by the xmms plugin. The command-line flac program does not exhibit the problem, nor does the winamp plugin. When these files are loaded into xmms, the track length displayed in the playlist editor is longer than it should be. When the file is played, no sound is output. The time remaining, bitrate, sampling rate and mono/stereo indicators change values apparently at random. Playback ends much sooner than the actual length of the file. The problem appears to be triggered by the audio data at the beginning of the files. If part of the sound is trimmed from the end, the problem still occurs with the resultant file. However, if the first millisecond of the file is trimmed off, the resultant file plays properly. Also, the problem only occurs if the files have been encoded using a minimum residual partition order of 3 (i.e. -r 3,X), so the presets -3, -4 and -5 are affected. If any other value for the minimum residual partition order is used, the encoded file plays properly. All encodings passed verification using the -V flag. The problem occurs regardless what metadata is present in the file. I've uploaded two files that trigger the problem to http://members.shaw.ca/aottley/flac/. Both are five-second clips from CD rips I made, one of Believe Me by Moist, the other of Miami by U2. Both are compressed using -5. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux typhoon 2.4.21 #1 Mon Jul 14 18:49:49 CST 2003 i686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C Versions of packages xmms-flac depends on: ii libc6 2.3.1-17 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libflac4 1.1.0-9 Free Lossless Audio Codec - runtim ii libglib1.2 1.2.10-9 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk1.2 1.2.10-16 The GIMP Toolkit set of widgets fo ii libid3-3.8.3 3.8.3-2 Library for manipulating ID3v1 and ii libstdc++5 1:3.3.1-0rc2 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii xlibs 4.2.1-9 X Window System client libraries ii xmms 1.2.7-3 Versatile X audio player that look ii zlib1g 1:1.1.4-14 compression library - runtime -- no debconf information ----- End forwarded message ----- -- - mdz
