I just happened to remember a discussion on the mailing list, that you
(Dave) are thinking and maybe even working on Ferret becoming kind of an
object database that fully circumvents the SQL-Store on occasions where this
might be appropriate (http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/82086#142613).
I''m using ferret quite heavily at the moment for a private project of
mine
and would love to put away the sql store for my document management
approach. Storing huge amounts of data in the SQL-Layer as well as in the
ferret-index simply doesn''t feel right (not to talk of staying dry). So

wonder if you are making any progress on this and maybe even encourage you
to put out a call for donations on this specific issue. Unfortunately I
won''t be able to donate much myself but I''m pretty sure that
there is demand
for something like this especially in my knowledge domain, the knowledge
management of documents in the context of legal documents (jurisdiction,
laws, legal science).
