Hello All! I've asked this question on others lists but didn't found any answer - full distro upgrade was only reasonable option. I understand why ext3 patches require up-to-date e2fsprogs - ext2 in heavy development. Q1: Why ext3 requires 'very' up-to-date util-linux? I've tryed to upgrade from tarball - but realized that I can run into problems with my distro. SuSE do patch their packages for some reasons making their boot scripts dependant on incompatible options. So I have all chances to not login again on my box after upgrade of util-linux... Q2: where could I find up-to-date ext3 patches for 2.2 kernels? Will appreciate for any help.

The newest util-linux versions have a bit more intelligence about autodetecting ext3 for you, but if you explicitly state that your fs is only ext3 in fstab then any old mount will work.> Q2: where could I find up-to-date ext3 patches for 2.2 kernels?ftp.*.kernel.org:/pub/linux/kernel/people/sct/ext3/ but all of the active development is on the 2.4 kernel. Don't be afraid to skip the patches if you're not on alpha. If you're interested, I could send you a reasonable util-linux-2.11f.src.rpm that works fine with SuSE 7.0 & 2.4.7 Chris. -- C h r i s t i a n H a u l haul@informatik.tu-darmstadt.de fingerprint: 99B0 1D9D 7919 644A 4837 7D73 FEF9 6856 335A 9E08
