[dtrace-discuss] dtrace documentation - how do you find/use it ?
Hi, Aren''t you just missing "man -s5 dtrace"? How do you find help if you need some? I usually go to google and look for something like "dtrace manual tracemem". Then skip in the results things like mailinglists and blogs and go through the page. If it''s the wrong page, go back and repeat until I''m bored. This does not work well for keywords like "printf", "trace", "probe", where google returns lot''s of uninteresting stuff. I do not want to use bookmarks too much, as I''m sitting in front of different computers. But I always have my text terminal screen(s) available, so commandline approach would be helpful. I''m just interested if there is some more clever way. Thank you -- Vlad -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... > Aren''t you just missing "man -s5 dtrace"? How do you find > help if you need some? For me, this was one of the fringe benefits of the documentation moving to http://wikis.sun.com - it''s really easy to find, now. That URL is short enough for me to remember, and unlike docs.sun.com, it''s just a couple of clicks before you''re into the stuff you''re looking for. That said, I''ve often thought a quick reference card might be handy; I''m pretty sure Jon H showed me a Sun-only version of such a thing back in the early days, although that could be my memory playing tricks. But it seems so old-fashioned; perhaps some DTrace quick reference wallpaper, with different levels of detail at different resolutions, might be the answer :-) -- Philip Beevers Fidessa Infrastructure Development mailto:philip.beevers at fidessa.com phone: +44 1483 206571 ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** This message is intended only for the stated addressee(s) and may be confidential. In the recesses I do remember a quick reference card that someone did but I can''t seem to find it at the minute. I think that a well done reference card would be useful. I''ll have mine laminated though as Pot Noodle can make an awful mess... Jon.
