Here are the relevant lines from my /etc/named.conf file on CentOS 5.
directory "/var/named";
zone "43.168.192.in-addr.arpa" {
type master;
file "data/192.168.43";
};
This will create/modify file "/var/named/data/192.168.43" and works
with
no issues after an upgrade.
