CentOS - Oct 2009 - how to turn off "update info" on /var/log/messages

we have CENTOS 5.3 on DELL server.  This server is inside firewall and it
continue get error messages on /var/log/messages:


error getting update info: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for
repository: base. Please verify its path and try again


anyone know how to turn off it?

Is Yum working correctly on this server ? Those are probably from
yum-updatesd.

Either disable yum-updatesd or fix the firewall or network settings so
that the server can check for updates.

Yes.  It work until I move server into firewall.  Do you know how to turn off
YUM update?
