[CentOS] installed centos 4.4 and want to stay with it
Hello, I installed CentOS 4.4 (for the first time) around a month ago (minimal install) and I just typed "yum update". I was surprised to see a big list of updates and feared an upgrade to centos 4.5 or 5.0 so I stopped the process with CTRL+C. What could I do to check everything is ok and stay with CentOS release 4.4 ? Thanks in advance, -- Mikael Kermorgant PS : here's a substract of yum update output : [root at azimbra ~]# yum update Setting up Update Process Setting up repositories dell-software 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00 update 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00 base 100% |=========================| 1.1 kB 00:00 kbs-CentOS-Extras 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00 addons 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00 extras 100% |=========================| 1.1 kB 00:00 Reading repository metadata in from local files primary.xml.gz 100% |=========================| 15 kB 00:00 dell-softw: ################################################## 75/75 Added 2 new packages, deleted 2 old in 0.07 seconds primary.xml.gz 100% |=========================| 25 kB 00:00 update : ################################################## 104/104 Added 104 new packages, deleted 393 old in 0.68 seconds primary.xml.gz 100% |=========================| 580 kB 00:01 base : ################################################## 1518/1518 Added 513 new packages, deleted 494 old in 4.70 seconds Resolving Dependencies iputils-20020927-19.EL4.5 100% |=========================| 10 kB 00:00 ---> Package iputils.i386 0:20020927-19.EL4.5 set to be updated ---> Downloading header for words to pack into transaction set. unzip-5.51-9.EL4.5.i386.r 100% |=========================| 8.5 kB 00:00 ---> Package unzip.i386 0:5.51-9.EL4.5 set to be updated ---> Downloading header for rhpl to pack into transaction set. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This is no different than a RHEL 4 system, install any update level, if you run `up2date -u`, you'll end up with the latest update plus any post-update hotfixes.

Yum proposes to upgrade so many packages, because CentOS 4.5 is out. Browse the list archive of the last few days for more information, as this has been asked a few times now. -- Daniel
