Hi there I am just writing to find out if anyone else had an issue installing CentOS 5 on an inspiron notebook. If I choose Desktop - Gnome in the distribution selection, after the "transferring image to hard disk" message it waits a very long time than dies with an error about not being able to run the transaction due to the following error: Press enter to reboot. I am able to install (in text mode) the 'server' option. But I would really like to install the desktop environment on my laptop. Thank you in advance. -Drew -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I just didn?t know if/why the installer doesn?t appear to work? I will assume this is a known issue than? -Drew

The centos5 install from DVD and net install went flawlessly on my dell inspiron 9300. With centos5, it's completely usable to the point that suspend/sleep works now. The only things I had to install separately were the nvidia proprietary drivers, and the intel ipw2200 firmware, both of which are in the RPMForge repository. -- During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.
